Domestic Abuse & Domestic Violence Counselling in Swansea and Online

Experiencing domestic abuse or domestic violence can leave you feeling isolated, confused, frightened, or questioning your own reality.

Whether the abuse is happening now or is something you've experienced in the past, therapy can provide a safe, confidential space where your experiences are heard, believed, and explored without judgment.

As an integrative counsellor based in Swansea, I offer specialist support for people affected by domestic abuse and domestic violence, both in person and online across the UK. My role is not to tell you what you should do or pressure you into making decisions before you’re ready. Instead, I will meet you where you are, supporting you to better understand your experiences and helping you regain a sense of safety, confidence, and control over your own life.

Domestic Abuse Isn't Always Physical

Many people associate domestic abuse with physical violence, but abuse can take many different forms. It may involve emotional manipulation, coercive control, gaslighting, intimidation, financial abuse, sexual abuse, threats, isolation from friends and family, or repeated behaviours that leave you feeling powerless or afraid.

Sometimes people don’t recognise what they’re experiencing as abuse until much later. You may wonder if you’re “overreacting,” minimise what has happened, or find yourself making excuses for another person’s behaviour. These responses are incredibly common, and you don’t need to have all the answers before seeking support.

Therapy offers a space to explore your experiences at your own pace, without pressure or expectations.

Support Without Judgement

One of the biggest misconceptions about counselling for domestic abuse is that therapy is about convincing someone to leave their relationship. That is not my role.

Every relationship is unique, and every person’s circumstances are different. There may be practical, financial, emotional, cultural, family, or safety reasons why leaving feels impossible, or simply not something you’re ready to consider.

My role is to support you, wherever you are in your journey.

Whether you’re trying to make sense of what’s happening, coping with the emotional impact of abuse, rebuilding after leaving, or processing experiences from years ago, therapy provides a compassionate space where your choices are respected. Together, we can explore your thoughts, emotions, fears, and hopes without judgement or pressure.

You remain the expert on your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you find clarity, reconnect with your own voice, and make decisions that feel right for you.

My Integrative Approach

As an integrative counsellor, I tailor therapy to your individual needs rather than following a single therapeutic model.

My work is rooted in person-centred counselling, offering empathy, acceptance, and genuine understanding. Alongside this, I may draw upon creative approaches, psychoeducation, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), existential therapy, and other evidence-informed approaches where they support your goals.

I understand that recovery from abuse is rarely straightforward. Healing isn’t about “getting over it” or moving on quickly. It’s about creating a therapeutic relationship where you feel safe enough to explore your experiences, reconnect with yourself, and gradually regain a sense of choice and empowerment.
